The International Conference in Classics and Ancient History assumes the role of a forum for discussion among experts from all over the world. The Centre for Classical and Humanistic Studies of the University of Coimbra, the event's organizing research unit, has already had substantial experience in terms of hosting major international conferences in these areas of scholarship - from which we highlight the International Conference on the History of Classical Antiquity: Interdisciplinary Approaches, in 2015 (website), and, more recently, in 2019, the 12th Celtic Conference in Classics (website).

The Covid-19 health crisis, declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization, has created several substantial uncertainties and difficulties for international travel for academics. Our planning committee has decided that these challenges to personal safety and mobility are incompatible with the organization and implementation of an international congress with 27 panels and the expected number of 400+ speakers from around the world.

Thus the Conference in Classics and Ancient History shall be postponed to the same dates, but next year: 22nd-25th June, 2021.

Consequently, our Call for Papers for panels extends until the 30th September 2020, but shall now apply to the new dates of the event.

We would like to thank all the panel conveners and members of the Scientific Committee for your commitment to the largest Classical Studies event ever organized by the Centre for Classical and Humanistic Studies of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra.

The 730 years of history of our University inspire us and help us to believe in the inevitable return to the safety and tranquility needed to promote large-scale scientific events!

Please take our sincere wishes for your Health and Safety as we stand in collegial solidarity with you all!
